How to compress a PDF
- Choose your PDF, then select image quality.
- Press Compress PDF and compare the exact before/after byte counts.
- Save the result and check photos and small text in your PDF viewer. Keep your original.
Supported files and limits
This first version accepts classic xref-table PDFs that have not been incrementally saved, with direct stream lengths. It recompresses 8-bit RGB baseline JPEG image objects up to 12 megapixels. Xref streams, object streams, encrypted files, signatures and forms are not supported. Processing stops after 30 seconds.
CMYK, ICC/EXIF-tagged images, transparency, masks and other image formats are left untouched. Uses a modern browser with worker canvas support. PDF/A compliance is not guaranteed. This is not a metadata removal tool.
Questions
Why did my PDF not shrink?
Text-only files, optimized JPEGs or files without eligible photos may not shrink. If the total size is not smaller, the download is your unchanged original.
Will text, links and bookmarks stay?
Only eligible photo objects are rewritten. Other objects, including text, links, page rotation, bookmarks and document structure, are copied byte for byte. Text already inside a scan remains an image; OCR is not added.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Processing happens in your browser with locally hosted code, without an account or external service.
